God Owns All Things—and Gives All Things

I've come to realize how easy it is to forget that everything we have ultimately belongs to God.

He isn't only the giver of what we possess; He is the giver of the abilities, opportunities, wisdom, and strength that helped us obtain it.

Yet how often do we take credit for what we've received?

We start thinking, “I earned this. It's mine. I can do whatever I want with it.”

But Scripture reminds us:

“The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1

Everything we have is ultimately a gift, and we are called to steward those gifts well.

This has changed the way I look at my possessions.

I don't believe everything on earth is meant to be rejected or that enjoying what God has given us is wrong. God gives us good things to enjoy. But nothing should be valued above Him.

Sometimes we accumulate far more than we need because we believe having more will make us feel more secure, satisfied, important, or fulfilled.

And eventually, we stop seeing our possessions as gifts.

We have 40 shirts we haven't worn in years. Markers sitting untouched in a drawer. Things we've kept simply because we might need them someday.

But what if someone else could use them now?

What if stewardship sometimes looks like letting go?

Faith isn't only trusting God with our future. Sometimes it's trusting Him enough to release what we're holding onto because we're afraid we might need it someday.

If God is truly our provider, we don't have to cling to everything we own as though our security depends on it.

That doesn't mean we have to give away everything we don't use every day. It means we can become more intentional about asking:

Am I stewarding this, or am I storing it out of fear?

Am I grateful for what I have, or am I constantly looking for more?

Is this possession serving God's purposes, serving others, or simply feeding my desire for comfort, status, or security?

Even our bodies belong to God.

Our money belongs to God.

Our homes, abilities, time, opportunities, and possessions ultimately belong to God.

And what a beautiful responsibility that is.

We don't have to live afraid that we'll never have enough.

We can receive what God gives with gratitude, care for it faithfully, enjoy it without worshiping it, and generously release it when it can serve someone else.

Everything we have is His. We are simply learning how to steward it well.

Lord, teach me to see everything I have as a gift. Free me from the need to find security in possessions. Give me wisdom to steward what You've entrusted to me, gratitude for what I have, and faith to let go when something could bless someone else. Help me trust that You are my provider and that I will never find my ultimate security in what I own. Amen.
