Motivated by His Love

Recently, God changed the way I understand 2 Corinthians 5:7:

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

I often say I have strong faith, but I've realized how often I still live by what I can see.

For me, walking by sight looked like believing I needed a certain job, apartment, environment, routine, and group of friends in order to be joyful and secure.

Before moving to Ohio, I spent months trying to picture exactly what my new life would look like. I thought if I could get everything lined up, I would finally feel safe.

Then I got here—and things didn't unfold the way I imagined.

The places I thought I'd go, the people I thought I'd meet, and the routine I thought I'd have didn't happen the way I expected.

And God reminded me: I never needed to see it all. I needed to trust Him.

Walking by faith doesn't mean knowing how everything will work out. It means trusting God when you can't see how it will.

Even on the days when circumstances look bad, God is still God. He is still present. He is still working. And He is still trustworthy.

Scripture tells us that God uses the difficulties of life to produce perseverance, maturity, and deeper dependence on Him (James 1:2–4). He disciplines us as His children and forms us to become more like Christ (Hebrews 12:5–11).

Sometimes the very circumstances we wish we could control become the places where God teaches us to trust Him.

So ask yourself:

What do I believe I need to see in my life to feel safe, loved, or secure?

What am I afraid will happen if I stop trying to control how everything unfolds?

God promises to be with us. He doesn't promise that life will always look the way we imagined.

So maybe faith is learning to surrender the picture we've created and trust the God who can see what we cannot.

A Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I've trusted what I can see more than I have trusted You. Help me surrender my need to know how everything will work out. When life looks uncertain, remind me that You are certain. You are with me. You are for me. Help me receive today as it comes, trusting that You can use every season to form me into the person You created me to be. Teach me to walk by faith, not by sight. Amen.
